Sensitivity simulation of sea surface temperature variability in coastal waters off East Africa in relation to the Indian Ocean Dipole

East African coastal waters in the tropical western Indian Ocean experience strong seasonality which varies yearly, leading to establishment of a prominent interannual Dipole (IOD). This has significant influence on regional and global socio-economic, climatic human development. Sea surface temperature (SST) variability these its association with ocean–atmosphere feedbacks internal subsurface ocean dynamics relation IOD is subject this study. The research used reference simulation accompanied sensitivity simulations forcings from higher frequency variabilities against climatological signals or 1980 2007. Wind forcing higher-frequency was applied all simulations. Cooling warming during pure positive events El Niño region caused by combination both heat fluxes associated feedbacks, dynamics, July peaking August October, respectively. Such processes also dominate (cooling) (La Niña) December (July October) where SST patterns extend southwards. warmest (coolest) anomalies (negative) co-occurring stay longer than other events, being characterised bimodal December. are significantly forced that might be Walker circulation driving links between Pacific oceans; however, enhanced small off Somali coast, probably owing existing upwelling systems conditions.
